A COMMUNITY is pulling together to restore a village hall to its glory days.
People in Hastoe have been raising thousands of pounds to give the building – which was built by Lady Emma Rothschild in 1898 – a makeover.
Mike Colling, from the Hastoe Village Hall Trust, said: “Hastoe was at the centre of their estate.
“They were really very good social employers, growing housing they built for their employees and Emma Rothschild effectively created a mini welfare state.
“The hall was the focal point. She built it partially as a social centre, but also as a recreational and sports centre.
“Emma Rothschild died in 1935 and all the land was sold off, but this hall was endowed to the village and surrounding area in perpetuity.”
