The Hemel Hempstead Camelot first XI continued their winning run with victory in a scrappy encounter at Harpenden.

It was Harpenden who took the lead with a well-taken try in the 13th minute, but Hemel hit back with a penalty from fly-half Richard Woodard when the home side were punished for not realising in the tackle.

Hemel started to play the better rugby as the game progressed, but it wasn’t until well into first half injury time that the backs showed what they could do in open play.

Winger Aled Gamble gathered the ball on the half-way line before feeding Ross Willoughby to score a well taken try. Woodard calmly stroked the ball between the posts to give Hemel a 10-5 lead at halftime.

Harpenden were the first to score in the second period when they took advantage of some poor Hemel tackling to score their second try.

Woodard responded with a penalty kick in the 11th minute of the half to regain the lead, which Camelot were not to relinquish for the rest of the match.

Although Harpenden scored a third try, Hemel wrapped the win up with further scores from Joe Cox and Connor Herlihy .

Elsewhere, Hemel’s second team – the Camelot Knights – continue to enjoy a very successful season.

The side played Saracens Amateurs at home on Saturday and dominated from the start, running in a series of tries to take a 34-3 lead into half-time.

The home side relaxed after the break, and Saracens pulled a try back to make the final score 34-8.

The Knights finish 2012 sitting top of the league, still unbeaten so far this season, with 11 wins on the spin.
