Camelot knew that travelling to Tabard for a top-of-the-table clash was always going to be a difficult task, and so it proved to be as they were beaten in a close game.

Tabard have led the London League 2 North West from the start of the season and, with their win on Saturday, remain undefeated in 12 outings.

It was Hemel who got the first points on the board in the 17th minute when centre Ross Willoughby collected a loose ball and put on the afterburners to race 35 metres to score. The conversion attempt from fly-half Richard Woodard drifted just wide.

Hemel managed to protect their slender lead until half-time, but Tabard were beginning to boss proceedings and a home try seemed imminent.

And so it proved to be, with Hemel undoing all of their good work in a disastrous three-minute spell.

Second row Leam Meddeman was given 10 minutes in the sin bin, before flanker George Adams was shown a yellow card shortly afterwards.

And Tabard’s numerical advantage paid off almost immediately when they scored a converted try to take a 7-5 lead.

Hemel battled bravely in search of a reply, but it was to no avail and the home side scored their second try with 10 minutes to go to wrap up the win.
