A group of 12 Chiltern Harriers took part in the National Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships at Cofton Park in Birmingham.
The U15 boys were first off and Jake Alderson had another solid run to come home as sixth Herts finisher in 195th place overall.
The Chiltern women involved in the U17 race were Hannah Morton – who was 69th and first Herts girl home – and Claire Baxter who was eighth Herts scorer in 226th position.
The next race was the U20 women’s event where Sarah Needleman had a good run over a tough 6k course.
The U13 girls’ race was a simpler 3K lap and Sophie Morton was one of three Chiltern girls in the Herts team.
She has had a superb season as an U13 runner and finished it off in style with an excellent run to finish 13th and come home first for the county.
Emily Alderson was sixth Herts finisher in 206th and Charlotte Munn was eighth finisher in 280th.
Chiltern had three Herts men in the U17 race and Jonty Wager-Leigh had a fine run as second Herts scorer in 48th place.
Matt Simpson and Callum Neal were sixth and seventh Herts finishers in 185th and 242nd place, respectively.
The penultimate race of the day was the U15 girls’ race. Scarlett Wager-Leigh was second Herts girl in 145th and Emily Bannister seventh Herts girl in 246th.
Elsewhere, sunshine and a cool wind provided pleasant conditions for runners at the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships.
Chiltern had five athletes representing Herts and Bucks Schools, with Hannah Morton finishing 90th overall in the intermediate girls’ race.
The next race featured Sophie Morton in her first year as a junior girl. She was first for Herts Schools and placed 21st overall.
In the same race Scarlett Wager-Leigh was second home for Herts Schools and 53rd overall.
In the intermediate boys’ race, Jonty Wager-Leigh led Herts athletes home in 43rd place, helping the team to eighth place.
Later in the day, Sarah Needleman was second finisher for Bucks Schools in 135th place in the senior girls’ race.
