Councillor bowls over youngsters with grant

FLAMSTEAD Cricket Club’s junior players have the equipment they need to help them develop their batting skills thanks to the support of a county councillor.

David Lloyd has allocated £1,500 from his locality budget to the club so that members can buy a bowling machine for their junior section.

It is hoped that it will help ensure better retention of the club’s young players.

The club is enthusiastic about improving and developing the cricketing skills of its youngsters, and has already raised nearly £2,000 through activities such as quiz nights and barbecues.

The additional £1,500 from Mr Lloyd ensures that the bowling machine will be available to the club’s young members during the current junior league season.

Locality budgets were launched in July 2009, with funding to be used for worthy social, economic or environmental causes in Hertfordshire.
