Young Berkhamsted athlete William Jarvis opened his 2014 track and field season at the Oxford City Open throws competition with a series of PBs and a brace of medals.
Watford Harries representative William won the U13 discus competition and took third place in the javelin – a feat made all the more surprising considering he originally joined the club as a sprinter and has only competed in throwing events since May.
His discus PB of 24.99m takes Ashlyns School pupil William in to the top-five in the UK rankings and is a testament to himself and the hard work of Watford Harriers coach Frank Whiteley, whose own daughter was a Commonwealth medallist.
William, who also trains with Matthew Davies, faced stiff opposition in the javelin but landed a new PB of 32.14m to win the bronze medal.
