A four-midable show as Kings conquer City

Kings Langley 4 Welwyn Garden City 0

Kings Langley continued their climb up the MSSML Division One table with a convincing 4-0 win over Welwyn Garden City.

It did not take Kings long to open the scoring as Ian Felgate’s surging run through midfield set up Jimmy Armstrong who fired home his fourteenth goal of the season with eight minutes on the clock.

City thought they had drawn level immediately afterwards, but their effort was ruled out for offside and, minutes later, Kings’ Luke Ladyman headed off the line.

That proved to be the visitors’ best spell of the match, as a Nathan Pooley chipped free kick was headed home by Dan Tomkins to put Kings firmly in control.

And the winger then bagged his second after Mark Hansard won the ball and crossed for him to turn and find the corner of the net.

With Kings in command, the second half was an understandably tamer affair, but Gary Connolly – enjoying his first outing since suffering a pre-season injury – provided the defence-splitting ball for Pooley to run on and score the hosts’ fourth and wrap up the win.

The victory moves Kings up into 11th in the table.

At the time the Gazette went to press, Kings were preparing for a Division One Cup first round clash at home to Sun Postal Sports.
