Youngster Colm Parrott made his debut for Hemel Town FC at Concord Rangers on Saturday as the club’s new academy begins to pay dividends.

The 16-year-old defender came off the bench late on, as Tudors boss Dean Brennan put faith in his young charge.

“We are really pleased that we managed to bring young Colm Parrott on for his debut at 16 years old which doesn’t happen at a lot of clubs,” said Brennan.

“The academy is important for the foundations of the football club – Steve Boone has worked incredibly hard to get this in place over the last three years. We believe in youth and we believe in young players, and we’re not afraid to give them an opportunity.

“For young Colm to come on is brilliant for him and a great learning curve for him. Without the academy, the football club won’t be anything – we’ve got to produce our own players and we’ve got to do it right.”
