Hemel Hempstead Town Youth have announced the appointment of Paul Higgins as the club’s new chairman.

Higgins has been involved with the club for more than 10 years, having held positions as coach, manager and committee member during that time.

He said he hopes to continue the work of former chairman Chris Brooks, who died last year following a battle with Leukaemia.

“I feel very honoured at becoming chair of this great club,” he said.

“Starting out in 1990 with just two teams, today we have no less than 24 teams, involving boys and girls from the age of six through to 18 years of age.

“It is without doubt that a great deal of the club’s successful growth and development has been due to the hard work, drive and passion of our former chair, Chris Brooks.

“Over the years, Chris grew the club into what it is today and I take my inspiration from all that he has achieved.

“It has been very hard for all at the club, but having the fantastic support of everyone involved – including the committee, coaches and managers – has meant that we have ensured Chris’s legacy continues, just as he had envisaged and worked so tirelessly toward.

“Overall, the future of this club is looking extremely positive, with plenty of enthusiastic new people becoming involved and lots of very exciting initiatives being implemented for our future.”
