AFC Hayes 4-2 Tring Athletic

Athletic’s interest in this year’s FA Cup came to an end after losing this six-goal thriller at Southern Leaguers AFC Hayes.

Hayes started strongly forcing Athletic back on their heels, and in the eighth minute Tony Fields converted a cross from Andy Mullins.

Ten minutes later Athletic stunned their hosts again to stretch their lead to 2-0 when a loose ball fell to David Whicker who cracked home a great shot from outside the area.

But any hopes Athletic had were soon dashed as Hayes came back strongly and were on level terms within five minutes.

Four minutes later the scores were level when a wayward shot fell to Dan Vincent and he fired an accurate shot past Mike Underwood.

Four minutes before half time Athletic conceded a penalty and Ross Ahir sent Mike Underwood the wrong way to cement his side’s comeback.

With nine minutes to go in the second half Hayes gave themselves some breathing space with a fourth goal from a quick breakaway that was converted by Matt Woods.
