Hemel Hempstead Town climbed to the top of the table after their impressive start to the season continued with a 6-1 thrashing of a young Bedford Town team at fortress Vauxhall Road on Tuesday.
A David Hutton hat-trick, two goals for Ben Mackey and another from David King contributed to the rout and the luckless Eagles could only claim a consolation strike at the death.
Mackey opened the scoring in the 10th minute, calmly converting when through one on one with keeper Dan Green.
Hutton extended the lead, heading home on 36 minutes and then coolly converting at the back post to make in 3-0 in the second half.
King took advantage of slipshod Bedford defending to tap home the fourth, and despite keeper Green doing his best to keep them out there was more to come.
A tap-in for Mackey in the 88th minute capitalised on a poor clearance, before the Eagles claimed their consolation soon after.
The agony wasn’t over, though – Hutton completed his hat-trick in the second minute of stoppage time when he once more found space at the far post and carefully placed the ball into the net from four yards.
