BERKHAMSTED suffered a disappointing start to their pre-season as they were thrashed 6-1 at home by Northwood.
Northwood – who currently play one division above Berko – ran in three goals either side of half-time to secure the emphatic win.
Comrades manager Mick Vipond gave debuts to defender Cameron Keast, midfielder Dale Sears, goalkeeper Freddie Hester, and Mark Burgess who played in midfield against his previous club.
Northwood, meanwhile, were almost unrecognisable, having been rebuilt from the side that struggled against relegation last campaign.
A long shot from last season’s player of the year Scott Raper gave the away side the lead, before a lobbed effort from Rob Ursell doubled the advantage.
Lee Grant added a third with a free header from a corner before half-time.
Former Berko player Ben Alexander made it 4-0 shortly after the interval, and the outstanding Ursell bagged his second and Northwood’s fifth with a powerful effort.
Oliver Hawkins nodded in the sixth goal, before teenage substitute Josh Chamberlain grabbed a consolation for the Comrades.
