BERKHAMSTED started life in the MSSML Premier Division with a 3-2 win over London Tigers at Broadwater.
After promotion last season, Berko picked up where they left off as two goals from Lawrence Bunker and another from substitute Mark Welling earned the points for the Comrades.
Mick Vipond’s side got off to a flying start as Bunker ran on to a long ball and fired home after just four minutes.
Both sides created chances as the first half progressed, and the Tigers found an equaliser courtesy of a fine Gregory Ngeno free-kick.
However, Berko were soon back in front as Bunker struck again to give his side a 2-1 half-time lead.
The visitors grew in confidence in the second half, but Welling bagged a third for Berko with a fierce 25-yard drive, before a late consolation from Tigers defender Dmitar Larin.
“A win is a win,” said Comrades boss Vipond. “It wasn’t a complete performance by any means and was a lot tighter than it should’ve been at the end.”
“But it’s always good to get the win when you have stepped up a division.”
