Berkhamsted were denied a place in the final of the Challenge Trophy after losing 3-1 to Stotfold at Broadwater on Tuesday night.

The visitors stunned Berko with two goals inside the opening 10 minutes and will go on to face Cockfosters in the final after they saw off Hoddesdon in the other semi-final.

Tom Gowans made his debut in the Berko goal with Carl Tasker unavailable for the match, and he was beaten early on when Nyasha Sagwete opened the scoring with a shot that went into the ground and bounced in.

Sagwete then got past the Comrades centre-backs to leave Gowans with no protection and the Stotfold striker shot home for 2-0.

Berko tried to play their way back into the game but could not manage to reduce the deficit before the interval –the best chance falling to Jack Copson who headed off target at the Railway End.

Kieron Turner came on at half-time to strengthen the Comrades’ midfield, and Frankie Jowle got over some crosses from the right wing but none were converted.

The hosts had more chances at the Canal End in the second half and substitute Stefan Owen-Edwards fired narrowly past the post.

However, visiting skipper Sean Herr scored to make it 3-0, and there was no way back for Berko despite Josh Chamberlain hitting a late consolation goal with a fine shot into the bottom corner.

Next up for the Comrades is a trip to bottom of the table Hatfield Town on Saturday.
