AFC Dunstable 0-5 Berkhamsted

Berko crashed to their biggest ever league defeat as they were thumped by high-flying AFC Dunstable.

The scoreline was harsh on the Comrades who played some good passing football, but the home team were clinical in their finishing while Berko lacked punch up front.

Berko’s Matt Wardle shot over from a neat ball by Josh Chamberlain early on, however Dunstable took the lead in the 12th minute when skipper Jim Baldry made the most of a rash challenge to win a penalty.

Gareth Harnaman duly placed his spot-kick in the corner of the net to put Dunstable ahead.

Berko looked for a response and Wardle got to the byline before picking out Chamberlain, but Nick Gardner was able to save his header on goal.

Josh Smith had a fine game in midfield as the visitors dominated the next 20 minutes and Gardener saved again from Chamberlain.

However it was the hosts who struck next to double their lead as a defensive mix-up allowed BJ Christie to slot home.

And Graham Buchanan made it 3-0 soon afterwards with a header that looped over the back-pedalling Ed Farmer in the Berko goal.

The visitors stuck to their task well and battled hard, but Moses Olaleye made it 4-0 in the 75th minute when he finished off a fine move.

Jonathan Barnett added the icing on the cake when he spotted Farmer off his line and lobbed home the final goal from 30 yards out.

Berko will be looking to make amends as they take on Levy Green in a Dacorum derby at Pancake Lane tomorrow. Kick-off 3pm.
