The Corries had Trevor Gibbs and Mick Swaysland to thank as they progressed to the second round of the Division Two Cup with a win over Totternhoe.

The first half was a largely uneventful affair, as both sides got to grips with a difficult surface.

Ryan Sturges looked lively and carried the greatest Corinthian threat, but neither side managed to create any decent chances.

Corries’ debutante Keeper Paul Jeffs enjoyed a largely comfortable first 45 minutes for the club.

However, inside 60 seconds of the restart Corinthians took the lead through top scorer Gibbs, who drilled home from inside the area.

This ignited the visitors and Corinthians pressed their hosts back and dominated possession.

And it wasn’t long before Tring added a second – the ever-green Swaysland nodding home from close range in the 55th minute.

When Gomm missed a good chance, having beaten the keeper to a through-ball, it looked only a matter of time before Corries added a third.

However, Stefan Tracey leapt from the Totternhoe bench and the lively striker scored to make it 2-1 after 71 minutes.

Corries dug deep, though, and saw the game out to book their place in the next round.
