Berkhamsted moved back up to third place in the SSML Premier Division with a hard-earned point at Potters Bar against Hadley last night.

Berko boss Mick Vipond was able to change the forwards, giving a debut to Jordan Aikman – a product of the youth and reserve sides – while leading scorer Connor Calcutt also returned to the team.

Berko passed better than on Saturday in a tight game where neither keeper had to make outstanding saves.

Tom Massey volleyed over at the back post for the home side when well placed and Ed Canham and Calcuttt went close for Berko.

The home side took the lead through Massey on the half hour mark with a shot after they broke down the right.

Jamie Gavin nearly hit back but his shot from the back stick cleared the bar, while Calcutt beat home keeper Tom Le Tissier in an aerial challenge but was forced out wide just before the interval.

Berko pressed hard for the equaliser in the second half and the home goal survived an almighty scramble before Calcutt fired over the bar.

A Jordon Frederick shot was cleared for a corner and Canham hit the post for Berko, with Gavin’s follow-up shot also blocked.

Kieran Smith soon hit the post at the other end and James Towell also shot wide as Hadley tried to sit on their lead.

Vipond brought on full-back Chris Cutler, allowing Dan Griggs to move forward, and with four minutse left Griggs pounced on a Massey error to shoot the leveller.

On Saturday Berko look for revenge when they are at home to Cockfosters in the Premier Division, searching for some more league points.

Dale Sears could be back but there is still along injury list including Lewis Rodrigoe, Steve Hawes, James Bent, Ashley Morrissey and Josh Chamberlain. In the Suburban Shield, Berko suffered the disappointment of travelling to Wembley to play Southall on Wednesday and, despite both teams and the match officials turning up, the ground owners would not allow the game to take place.

They hope to have better luck at Royston Town on Saturday.
