Delight at clean-sheet Dolphins' double

It was a near-perfect end to the football season for Comets Dolphins.

The U12 side won the R and T East of England trophy just seven days after lifting the league title.

The tournament victory was made even more memorable by the fact that Trevor Acors' boys won all seven of their games without conceding a single goal.

The boys were presented with their trophy by footballing legend and former Liverpool, Spurs and England stopper Ray Clemence - who is now the national side's goalkeeping coach - after two days of play.

Their fourth regional win in five seasons, Clemence became another big name to present such a trophy to the boys, following in the footsteps of Harry Redknapp, Trevor Brooking and John Aldridge.

Teams from across the region, many featuring young academy players, were beaten by Dolphins last weekend, who only used 11 players in the process.

Over the course of the league season they secured themselves the Watford Friendly League U12 Red Division title winning 15 games, drawing two and losing only once.

Dolphins also reached the County Cup final and were unlucky to finish up second-best to Bengeo Tigers.

Head coach Trevor Acors was delighted with his boys' performance and attitude this season.

"It's been an outstanding season," he said. "I'm pleased with their achievements, but I'm more pleased with the spirit they have showed.

"It's more than football for me - it's an education for them. I want them to compete well, win well, lose well, but more important is the experience of being a team."

Had the side, who have been together since the age of five, won the County Cup, six of them would have held two county titles at once.

For they made up half of the Hemel Hempstead Town U11s last season, who won the County Cup, as well as the Indoor Cricket Cup and League.
