Loughborough Saints 1 Comets Sports Club 3
COMETS made it through to the last-16 of the National Sunday Cup with a hard-fought 3-1 victory at Loughborough Saints.
Chris Marsh, Jack Wood and Shane Wood got the goals for Comets as they defied the odds to pick up the win.
Comets arrived late for the tie, and the side were also hindered substantially by the fact they had only 11 fit players.
Loughborough were visibly buoyed by the sight of the depleted Comets squad attempting to fit in a hurried warm-up, but that joy was short-lived.
Ninety minutes later, Shane Wood’s leadership in the middle of the Comets defence had changed the entire complexion of the situation, and the visitors were celebrating their unlikely win.
Loughborough found Wood to be an immovable rock, and Comets used his performance as the basis to secure the victory.
Comets will travel to Sungate for the last-16 clash on January 22, and manager Dan Meaney said: “The team spirit is now such that there is a growing expectation in this cup.”
