BERKHAMSTED saw their FA Cup dreams shattered as St Albans swept to a 3-0 victory in the first qualifying round replay at Broadwater.

After holding the Saints to a 0-0 draw at Clarence Park on Saturday, the Comrades were hopeful of producing a cup shock to eliminate their illustrious opponents.

Berko battled bravely, but quality eventually shone through as Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division outfit St Albans booked their place in the next round.

City came out of the blocks quickly, but it was Berko who produced the first chance of the game as Tony Burnett headed straight at visiting keeper Nick Jupp.

St Albans, though, were dominating in midfield and opened the scoring after 22 minutes.

Sean Shields clipped a ball into the area and Rob Haworth was on hand to head home.

St Albans doubled their lead shortly after half-time – Shields again the architect as Ryan Moran nodded home his delivery to put Saints 2-0 up.

And the result was put beyond doubt after 64 minutes as Shields completed a hat-trick of assists, picking out Jerome Walker to volley home and seal the win.
