FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Kings Langley 5 Stotfold 2
KINGS made their first FA Cup appearance for 66 years, claiming the scalps of South Midlands Premiership side Stotfold.
The Bedfordshire team forced a series of corners from the off, but the Kings strike force of Campbell and Armstrong began to cause problems, the latter forcing a sharp save from Scott Waters.
Stotfold had a clear chance after 20 minutes, but when Kings were awarded a free kick on the left, Gary Clark’s low shot deceived the defence to give the Division One side the lead.
Jimmy Armstrong then demonstrated his pedigree, riding a tackle to fire home from an acute angle and rounding the keeper three minutes later.
In the second half, Kings nerves were jangled when Josh Cook fired a shot in from the left wing and Jamie Osborne lobbed Kevin Marsh to close the gap.
The irrepressible Jimmy Armstrong restored calm, keeping his head to beat Waters when sent through by Ian Felgate and then converting a penalty, awarded for handball. Kings host Enfield Town in the next round in a fortnight’s time.
