Leverstock Green 0 Arsenal 6
LEVERSTOCK Green Ladies put in a gutsy display against Arsenal Ladies but were simply outclassed in their County Cup clash.
Arsenal – the dominant force in women’s football – put in a classy display, but Levy can take heart from a performance which saw them battle to the end against their powerful opponents.
It was clearly as daunting task for the Levy players against the reigning Super League, FA Cup and Continental Cup champions, but the hosts managed to keep Arsenal at bay until the 15 minute mark.
Some neat interplay involving a slick midfield unit resulted in the opening goal for the Gunners, and the visitors doubled their advantage soon afterwards.
A third goal followed on the half hour mark, and Levy went in trailing 4-0 at the break as Arsenal added a fourth in first half stoppage time.
The visitors continued where they left off after the break, and began to exhibit some glorious passing football.
They made it 5-0 with an hour played but, despite wave after wave of attacking moves, were made to wait until stoppage time to wrap up the victory with a sixth.
Praise must go to Levy keeper Haidee Cable who produced a heroic performance between the sticks to keep the scoreline down.
It has been a difficult season for Green so far, but they will be able to take a lot of positives from the game against their high-class opponents.
It is back to normality for Levy on Saturday as they entertain Hutton in the Eastern Region League.
Green currently sit bottom of the league, having won just one of their 11 games so far this season.
Hutton, on the other hand, are flying high in second place so another tough game is in prospect for Green.
Hutton emerged as 4-1 victors in the last meeting between the two sides.
