Kings Langley 5 St Albans City Reserves 2

Kings Langley put in one of their best performances of the season to avenge last month’s league defeat at Clarence Park and advance to the quarter-finals of the Division One Cup.

In a dominant display, Kings saw off the Saints Reserves 5-2 with braces from Craig Lynskey and Nathan Pooley, as well as a Jimmy Armstrong strike.

In a bright start to the game from Kings, a Luke Ladyman header from a corner was ruled out in the fifth minute and Sam Lyon cleared a goal-bound shot from Ryan Denham.

The home side finally made the breakthrough when Lynskey set up Armstrong to rifle home, and minutes later the two combined in reverse for Lynskey to finish strongly.

A flowing game of attacking football from both sides continued as Armstrong fed Nathan Pooley to beat Aiden Kelly with a confident chipped volley, before Rob Quattromini pulled one back from close range for the Saints.

The move of the match between Sam Warrell and Pooley rounded off three goals in as many minutes, as Kings restored their advantage.

As the tie drew to a breathless close, the ball fell kindly for Lynskey to complete a well deserved brace, and Lyon completed the scoring with a header from a free-kick.
