Watford Ladies 1 Leeds United Ladies 2
Watford Ladies were undone by a Carey Huegett brace as they were beaten by Leeds at Broadwater.
Leeds got off to the best possible start as they flew out of the traps and took the lead inside the first two minutes.
Danielle Sheen was the provider as she found Huegett, who made no mistake and slotted the ball past Lauren Davey in the Hornets goal.
Leeds continued to press but the Hornets looked to hit back on the counter-attack and Sarah Wiltshire saw her long-range effort crash back off the crossbar.
And the scores were soon level as Emma Beckett played a delightful pass over the top to Jo Wilson, who drilled the ball past Jules Draycott to equalise.
With chances at either end in a free-flowing game, Huegett produced a moment of second-half quality that unlocked the Watford defence and ultimately proved to be the decisive point in the match.
A neat flick by Huegett set Leeds up and, when the cross came into the box, the striker was on hand to finish and give the visitors the lead.
Watford pushed for an equaliser but could not find their way through a stubborn Leeds defence and succumbed to their first defeat of the season.
Reflecting on the game, Watford manager John Salomon said: “We will learn lessons quickly and keep getting better.”
