ANDY Humphreys bagged a hat-trick as Tring Athletic started the season with a 3-1 win at Hertford Town.
It was a great start for new Tring boss Julian Robinson who was taking charge of his first league game at the club.
Athletic started the game brightly and it did not take Humphreys long to open his account. Steve Smith found the striker in the box, and he fired the ball home.
Hertford looked for a reply and Tring keeper Mike Underwood was forced into a good save, but it was Athletic who struck again.
Smith was the provider for Humphreys once more, with the latter guiding the ball home for his and Athletic’s second goal of the afternoon.
Hertford rallied at the start of the second half, and were rewarded for their endeavours when Micheal Cooper put in the rebound after Underwood had saved a Town penalty.
That lifted the home side, but Humphreys made sure of the points for Tring as he completed his hat-trick with seven minutes left to play.
“I was really pleased,” said Tring manager Robinson.
“We played really well and thoroughly deserved the win. We had 11 players unavailable, so it was a great result.”
