Hemel Town FC captain Jordan Parkes says he was ‘delighted’ to scoop the top three awards at the club’s end of season presentation night.

Midfield maestro Parkes was named Supporters’ Player of the Year, as well as Manager’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year following a 30-goal season for the Tudors.

“It feels brilliant to know that the fans have chosen me as their player of the season,” said Parkes. “I have played over 50 games for Hemel this season and have worked tirelessly both on and off the field – for the fans to notice this is what makes it all worthwhile.

“I was also delighted to receive Manager’s Player and Players’ Player of the Season. To win all three awards was an amazing feeling and I felt very proud of the achievements.”

Parkes led by example this season, and he says he has exceeded the targets he set himself before the campaign.

“At the start of the season I challenged myself to score at least 10 league goals,” he said. “As I’m a midfielder and we were stepping up a league, I thought that was going to be a reasonable target.

I’m amazed at how many goals I’ve scored – I think there have only been five goals scored inside the box and one header.

“So I’m amazed at how many goals I’ve scored – I think there have only been five goals scored inside the box and one header.

“The goal that stands out for me was the last-minute equaliser at St Albans on Boxing Day. We were 1-0 down and not playing well; I remember feeling ill and had no energy.

“Their centre-half headed the ball out of the box and I remember just thinking ‘I’m going to hit this.’ Thankfully the half volley flew into the top corner – I had to give a trademark knee-slide in front of our fans who were going crazy!”

Looking at the campaign overall, Parkes added: “The season on the whole has been very good for Hemel; we have finished the highest in the club’s history and broke other records in getting to the first round of the FA Cup and going far in the FA Trophy.

“We can certainly be proud of our achievements this season.”
