London Lions 0 Kings Langley 4
KINGS Langley bounced back from two heavy defeats with a sparkling performance against London Lions.
Goals from Matt Johnson, Gary Connolly, Jimmy Armstrong and Steve Noonan secured a 4-0 Kings victory – a result which they will hope can kick-start their season.
Jack Johnson signalled Kings’ attacking intent with a lob which hit the bar in the first minute, and a Liam James header went close, before Lions keeper Mario Cenolli failed to hold a Nathan Pooley free-kick and Matt Johnson prodded the ball home.
Both number nines then went close – Kings’ Jimmy Armstrong saw his effort saved before London’s Dean Nyman fired over the bar – and two further chances were then headed over the bar by the home side.
Kings keeper Ross Hampton blocked a certain equalizer as play resumed, before Armstrong was brought down in the penalty area and the influential Connolly coolly converted the resulting penalty.
Pooley’s free-kick was then forced over the line by Armstrong to end his barren spell and put his side 3-0 up, before the hard-working Noonan took advantage of a hesitant defence to net from close range – the result of yet another dangerous Pooley free-kick.
A late Lions effort was ruled out for offside, and that ensured Hampton kept well-deserved clean sheet as Kings took the points.
