10-MAN Tring Athletic were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Broxbourne Borough as their hopes of securing second place in the league took another setback.
Tring opened the scoring through Jason Beck before Broxbourne forced a second-half equaliser.
Beck was then dismissed for Athletic, and captain Graham Hall rounded off a disappointing afternoon as his penalty kick was saved with 15 minutes left to play.
Beck’s 26th minute opener was a rare touch of class for Tring as he fired home from the edge of the area.
Both teams created further chances in the first half, but Athletic were undone by a sloppy equaliser from a defensive point of view as Junior Adedye latched on to a long ball to slot home.
The afternoon got worse for Tring as Beck was red-carded for a poor tackle, but Athletic had the chance to win the game from the spot after a handball in the area.
Hall, though, could not convert and Phil Casserley’s side were made to settle for a point.
“For some reason we put in a really flat performance,” Casserley said.
“We looked jaded but second place is still in our hands.”
