Little Hay Golf Complex in Bovingdon is the latest golf course to adopt one of the UK’s fastest growing sports – FootGolf.
The game, which originated in the Netherlands in 2009, has grown rapidly in a relatively short period of time, with many countries now officially recognising the sport.
The game involves players using their feet to kick footballs around a course into specially designed large holes.
At Little Hay, the 9-hole FootGolf course is situated on their pitch and putt course, with the object of the game being to kick the ball into the hole in the lowest amount of shots possible.
It is a sport that males and females can play – an estimated 35 per cent of FootGolfers are female – with most games being completed within an hour.
To kick-off the new game at Little Hay, they invited 2014 UK top-ranked player Ben Clarke to have a go.
Ben, from Berkhamsted, was joined by Channel 5 presenter Rob Lammar. He said: ‘’I enjoyed the round, and feel that Little Hay is the perfect course for everyone of all ages and abilities, and will certainly leave a good impression of the sport.’’
True to his number 1 ranking, Ben secured a hole-in-one on the second hole, and completed the course with a score of 17-under par.
He added: ‘’It’s a great course to practice your short game and approach, with varied distances to holes and potential opportunities for a hole-in-one!’’
The beauty of FootGolf is you don’t need any expert skills, technique or equipment. You can pop along to Little Hay, grab a ball and you’re on your way. For a game, it will cost an adult £4.50, seniors £3 and juniors £2.80. Please call 01442 507100 or visit www.sportspace.co.uk for information.
