Momentum builds as Tudors make a point

Stourbridge 1 Hemel Hempstead Town 1

Hemel Town edged a point closer to safety as they returned from Stourbridge with a well earned 1-1 draw.

In an entertaining encounter, Hemel took the lead through the impressive Dave Pearce after just two minutes, before the hosts his back with a Nathan Bennett effort.

The Glassboys then had the chance to take the lead from the spot, but Aaron Blake blazed his penalty over and the game ended all square.

The result extends the Tudors’ unbeaten run to four games, and moves Tommy Widdrington’s side to within five points of 18th-placed Bashley.

Hemel were quick out of the blocks and Pearce’s opener gave them a flying start.

Marquin Smith found Pearce with a fine pass, and although keeper Lewis Solly saved the winger’s initial shot, he nodded home at the second attempt.

Pearce continued to threaten and he nearly doubled the lead with a shot across goal before seeing a free-kick well saved.

Gradually, though, the hosts worked their way back into the game and netted a deserved equaliser.

Drew Canavan delivered the ball into the box, and Bennett was on hand to guide the ball past Tudors keeper Ross Kitteridge.

Stourbridge continued to press, and after being denied one penalty following an overturned decision, the hosts were given the chance to take the lead from the spot.

Kitteridge made a clumsy challenge on Sam Smith, but Drake stepped up and slammed his effort over the bar.

From then on, the Tudors grew in confidence and dominated the rest of the game.

Alieu Jallow headed over from eight yards, before Ryan Blake and Charlie Gorman were denied.

Pearce and Jallow came close again as the game reached its conclusion, but with no further scoring, the game ended 1-1.
