Leverstock Green endured yet another night to forget as they were dumped out of the Herts Senior Cup by Hoddesdon Town in the first round of the competition.
Leverstock have had a miserable start to the campaign and there was no respite as Hoddesdon romped to an emphatic 7-1 win.
The opening exchanges had been even, but once again Green fell behind to a soft goal as keeper Dave Durbridge spilled a hopeful punt upfield, allowing Ben Andreos to open the scoring in the 12th minute.
The lead was doubled on 26 minutes through Lorenzo Scibelli, and Tyler Hatherly made it 3-0 before half-time as his shot somehow squirmed under Durbridge.
The Levy keeper was lucky not to see red in first half stoppage time when Sean Stock was clean through, but the referee saw that the rebound from Durbridge’s foul was running into the path of Scibelli, and played the advantage to allow Scibelli to shoot into the empty net for a 4-0 half-time lead.
Hoddesdon added a fifth goal after 74 minutes through substitute Adam Bolle, but there was some consolation for Green soon afterwards as Ashley Harewood-Williams scored a spectacular volley from 25 yards to make it 5-1.
However, Hatherly shot in off the post to restore Hoddesdon’s five-goal cushion after 81 minutes, and Bolle scored his second of the night to make it 7-1 shortly before full-time.
Leverstock must now turn their attention to Saturday’s crucial league match against fellow strugglers Hatfield Town.
