There was penalty shoot-out woe for Levy Green in the first round of the Premier League Cup at Pancake Lane on Tuesday night.

Green had twice fought back against Aylesbury United to take the game to penalties, but Curt Dizon saw his spot-kick saved, allowing Ben Baines to slot home the winning penalty.

Stacey Field gave Aylesbury the lead in the fourth minute, but a much-improved Green side fought back well and eventually equalised through Brad Wadkins in the 69th minute.

The match went into extra-time, and Aylesbury went back in front in the opening minute with a goal from Baines.

The visitors dominated extra-time, but Levy equalised again when Tobi Akin broke away to score in the 101st minute.

With the final score locked at 2-2 the tie went to penalties, and Leverstock got off to a bad start when Akin’s kick was saved.

Everyone else was successful until Field had the chance to win the tie with Aylesbury’s fifth kick, but the striker lashed his effort over the bar.

However, Dizon’s penalty was saved to put Aylesbury at match point again, and this time Baines made no mistake in putting Aylesbury through to the next round.

Next up for Levy is a home clash with Holmer Green in the league on Saturday.

Steve Benitez’s Levy side are currently on a winless run stretching back eight games, but will fancy their chances of turning things around against struggling Holmer Green.

Levy picked up a 4-0 win when the two sides met in the reverse fixture earlier this season and a victory on Saturday could see them climb three places in the league table.
