Semi-final woe as the Tudors are eliminated

HEMEL Town were knocked out of the Herts Charity Cup as Bishop’s Stortford made it through to the final.

The Tudors had hoped to cause an upset at Vauxhall Road against a team one step above them in the non-league pyramid, but an early goal settled the tie in Stortford’s favour.

The Tudors had been enjoying a good run of form before Saturday’s home defeat to Cambridge City, but Tommy Widdrington’s side could not force a breakthrough against their Blue Square North opponents.

And Ricky Sappleton’s seventh-minute effort proved to be the match-winner for the visitors.

Sappleton tried his luck from 12 yards out, and Hemel’s former Stortford keeper Ross Ketteridge could not keep the ball out.

Both teams had chances as the match progressed, but with no further goals it was Stortford who booked their final place.
