Watford Ladies extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a hard-fought win at Tottenham in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

The contest took a little while to get going, but goals from midfielder Emma Beckett and defender Renee Hector were enough to hand the Golden Girls the win.

The Hornets have been in impressive form since their switch to Berkhamsted at the start of the season, and Sarah Wiltshire came close to giving them the lead on a handful of occasions in the first half.

Wiltshire was off target twice in quick succession shortly after the break, but the breakthrough finally arrived in the 81st minute.

Wiltshire whipped a delivery into the box which was met by the head of Beckett for her second goal of the season.

And the Golden Girls made sure of the win eight minutes later.

Wiltshire’s shot was blocked by the Tottenham keeper, but Hector was on hand to stab the ball home.

Manager John Salomon said: “I’m really pleased with the result today and to have secured our place in the knock-out stages.

“We showed great spirit and determination and secured the result we needed.”
