Brentwood Town 0-0 Hemel Hempstead Town (Hemel win 4-2 on pens)
HEMEL Town have booked their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after beating Brentwood Town on penalties in the first round replay.
The Tudors were held to a 0-0 draw at Vauxhall Road on Saturday, and the teams again cancelled each other out as the replay ended scoreless after extra-time.
Both teams knew that their fate was to be decided by the dreaded shoot-out lottery, but it was Hemel who kept their nerve to run out 4-2 winners from the spot – with keeper Nick Bussey sawing two Brentwood efforts.
In a poor first Half, Hemel hit the bar after five minutes, but neither side managed to force many clear-cut chances.
The tie swung in the Tudors’ favour at the start of the second half, though, as Brentwood skipper Greg Blewitt was dismissed following a second yellow card.
Hemel began to press, but despite the numerical advantage, could not force a breakthrough, and had to get the job done on penalties.
The victory earns Hemel a trip to Lowestoft Town in the next round, on October 1.
Lowestoft finished fourth in the Isthmian Premier Division last season, losing out in the play-off final. They also reached the FA Cup first round proper.
