Doves United 5 Drays Athletic 1
Doves United did Billy Dove proud as they swept aside Drays United to lift the Hertfordshire FA Sunday Intermediate Cup in their first season as a team.
In an all-BSFL final at the Herts FA County Ground in Letchworth, Doves maintained their scintillating form to take the title in honour of Billy.
The team was set up at the start of this season by Billy’s dad Paul, who recruited a number of his son’s friends and family to make up the squad.
United took an early lead through skipper Dan Weeks, and added further first half goals through Connor Deadman and Callum Dennis.
Athletic pulled one back just before half-time through Lucas Flood, but there was no way back for Drays as Dennis bagged his second before Adiel Mannion completed the scoring for Doves
Doves manager Paul said: “This final was all about my son Billy who lost his life to knife crime 17 months ago.
“All his best mates and family came together to form this team and Doves United have gone from strength to strength. I couldn’t have asked for more.
“They have done Billy and myself proud. Their passion for Billy drives them on.
“I’d also like to say a big thank you to the committee team at the BSFL for all their hard work as they do not receive the plaudits they deserve.”
