Watford Ladies Reserves were beaten 5-2 by a strong Millwall Lionesses Reserves side at Beckenham Town FC in the WSL Development League Cup group stage.

After an even start to the game, the hosts took the lead after 25 minutes from close range but Watford’s attacking persistence paid off when the equaliser came 13 minutes later.

Lauren Kelly’s free-kick from out wide evaded everyone except Josie Green at the far post who headed home.

Millwall regained the lead shortly before half-time, however, as a Lioness pounced from inside the area.

The home side looked to have consolidated their stranglehold on the game when a flowing move resulted in a thumping first-time volley giving them a 3-1 advantage.

But the Golden Girls weren’t finished and Lauren Kelly’s 30-yard free-kick gave the visitors a lifeline.

A fine strike restored Millwall’s two-goal lead with just 10 minutes left and the game was made safe as the game reached its closing stages to give the Lionesses a flattering 5-2 scoreline.

Emily Heaslip was unlucky on two occasions not to have got an equaliser with the game still at 3-2 – with the Millwall goalkeeper making two good saves.

Elsewhere, the Watford Ladies Development team moved to within one point of league leaders Carshalton Athletic Ladies with a game in hand, after a 1-0 win home victory over Camden Town Ladies.

Perri Driscoll got the only goal of the game just before half time.

Sarah Wiltshire, meanwhile, took her tally to 10 league goals in the FAWPL South as she grabbed a hat-trick for Cardiff City Ladies in their 3-3 draw at Charlton Athletic.

The treble included a last minute penalty to deny the Addicks all three points.

Also in action, Fliss Gibbons won her team a penalty as Gillingham Ladies moved three points clear at the top with a resounding 5-1 victory over Spurs Ladies. Megan Wynne also played in the game for Spurs.

Chelsea Coles kept another clean sheet for QPR Ladies as they sealed their place in the Womens FA Cup first round with a 5-0 win over Oxford City.

This weekend, the Reserves host Arsenal Ladies Reserves at Sun Postal FC, 2pm kick-off in the WSL Development League Cup.

The Development Team, meanwhile, travel to Colne Valley in search of a fifth consecutive win.
