Gillingham Ladies 1
Watford Ladies 3
WATFORD Ladies continued their pre season schedule with a 3-1 victory over Premier League South side Gillingham Ladies.
The Gills players were keen to impress new manager James Marrs, but they were stunned by an excellent first half display from their visitors.
A Sarah Wiltshire double, either side of a Gillingham own goal, did the damage and ensured the Hornets kept up their good pre-season form ahead of their league opener at Broadwater later this month.
Watford manager John Salomon was full of praise for his side and said: “Today was another excellent test for us against a very good side.
“The players are doing everything we are asking of them and developing very well in each game. I am very pleased with our progress.
“The players looked sharp again and we are continuing the hard work ethos that brought our success last season.”
After a good start to the game, Watford took the lead as Jo Wilson picked out Wiltshire’s run into the box and she took a touch before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper.
A Wiltshire cross was flicked into her own net by a Gillingham defender to double the lead, and the win was sealed when Wiltshire unleashed a left foot strike from 25 yards into the far corner that gave the Gills goalkeeper no chance.
Gillingham bagged a consolation goal late on.
