A total of 133 football teams from Chippenham to Chorleywood and Harpenden to Hackney descended upon Berkhamsted Raiders Community Football Club at Kitchener’s Field on Sunday for the club’s hugely successful annual football tournament.
1,300 footballers, 1,400 paying adults and over 100 volunteers enjoyed glorious sunshine, fantastic pitches and some great football at the event, which welcomed girls and boys teams between the ages of six and 14.
Nearly 1,000 burgers, 350 sausages, 400 rashers of bacon and 200 bags of sweets were consumed at the tournament, which has become an annual fixture for clubs all over Herts, Beds, Bucks, Middlesex and London.
And there were some local teams amongst the winners. Berkhamsted Raiders picked up the U10 Trophy, the U9 Plate and the U9/10 Girls’ Trophy, while two teams from Hemel Town shared the U10 Plate.
“Once again Berkhamsted Raiders have hosted a brilliant tournament which featured some great football, all played in a competitive but extremely sporting way,” said Raiders chairman Keith Pollard.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all the competitors, the organisers and, of course, the army of volunteers who helped make the event such a success.”
