TRING Athletic have earned bragging rights among Dacorum’s MSSML Premier Division trio after bagging sixth place in the league – and they ended the season with entertaining last-day draw with Oxhey Jets.

In Julian Robinson’s first season in charge of the team, Tring have made impressive strides with a young team, and finished ahead of Dacorum rivals Berkhamsted and Levy Green.

Saturday’s draw ensured the team ended the campaign unbeaten in their last seven league outings – a record which looked in danger early on in the match.

Jets have a good record at Tring, and the visitors made a flying start as they raced into a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes courtesy of goals from Lewis Putman and Ben Poulton.

Oxhey were dominating proceedings and could have extended their lead midway through the first half as Luke Beardsworth hit the post, before Putman shot straight at Tring keeper Mike Underwood.

The closest Tring came at the other end was a chance for Reon Thomas, but he had the ball whipped off his toes just as he was about to pull the trigger.

Athletic came out after half-time with much greater purpose, and Connor Smith forced keeper Jets Mark Jessop into a flying save shortly after the restart.

And it did not take long for Tring to reduce the deficit as captain Graham Hall fed Thomas to slot home for 2-2.

Tring were now firmly in the ascendancy and it came as no surprise when they bagged the equaliser.

Sam Joliffe clipped the ball into the area, and Hall produced a wonderful acrobatic volley to level the scores.

With Athletic now bossing proceedings, however, a serious injury to Jessop resulted in a 40 minute delay to the game and the hosts seemed to lose their momentum.

There was still time for late drama to ensure an exciting end to the season, though.

Jets thought they had won the game in stoppage time as Cornelius Keating made it 3-2, but Tring were not to be denied a point and Connor Waite snatched a point for his side two minutes later.
