After their previous two matches were postponed due to the weather or conceded by the opposition, Hatch End Hawks returned to action with a hard-fought draw with Purley Blues.

The Hawks were looking for revenge following a narrow 9-8 defeat on Blues turf in September and they started off well, winning the draw and driving straight into attack.

Within the first minute of play, Hawks attack Antonia Hudson found the back of the net to open the scoring.

However, the Hawks seemed to switch off for the next 15 minutes, and the scoreline started to run away from them.

A quick time-out was called by captain Elle Davis, which helped the Hawks recover their focus to go into half-time trailing by just two goals at 9-7.

The Hawks attack really came together in the second half, moving onto the ball and working as a team, resulting in some excellent goals.

As the Blues started to tire, the Hawks’ fitness gave them an advantage and they edged ahead by one goal with only three and a half minutes to go.

However, Hawks lost possession and the Blues took advantage to level the scores at 13-13.

The top goalscorer on the day was Carina Western with four goals.

Next up for the Hawks is a clash against Centaurs at the weekend – the team they finished as runners-up to in the finals of the South East Clubs and Colleges Tournament in October.
