Berko men whitewash the rest in winning weekend

editorial image

It was an top weekend for the men’s section of Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead Hockey club, with every team winning and most doing so in emphatic style.

Leading the way was the fifth team, who stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games with a 6-0 win over Letchworth.

The third XI were next best, winning 6-1 against Royston, while the fourth side beat Winchmore Hill & Enfield 4-1.

The narrowest win came from the first team who beat Letchworth 2-1 with a last minute winner from a short corner, and the second XI recorded a 5-0 walkover against Luton Vagrants who could not field a side.

Another success story for the club were the U12s who made it to the final of the Leighton Buzzard tournament on Sunday.

The ladies’ sides did not fare so well, however, as both the first and second teams lost narrowly – 1-0 and 2-0 respectively.

Didi Seymour was the hero for the men’s first team against Letchworth, with his saves providing the platform for Peter Allam to earn the last-gasp win.

Elsewhere, Ed Goodwyn’s hat-trick helped the third team to victory over Royston, while Daniel Pryor, Will Hanwell (2)and Jeremy Steed scored for the fourths.

It was a family affair for the fifths, with Morris Moorhouse, Ben Moorhouse (3) and Thomas Moorhouse all on target against Letchworth. Ed Holderness also netted.

Will Hodges (2) and Rebecca Hingston got the Berko goals for the U12s.
