Mixed fortunes for Berkhamsted sides

Berkhamsted recorded a mixed bag of results as only a handful of games survived the big freeze at the weekend

The Berkhamsted first team were in action, but they were caught cold against Rickmansworth as they slipped to a 4-1 defeat.

Berko started slowly and let in a soft goal, but managed to pull it back shortly afterwards with a well-worked team move that was finished by Pete Allam.

Rickmansworth scored another just before the break to take a 2-1 lead into half-time, and with Berko slow off the blocks again at the restart, another goal followed shortly after the break.

After the goal Berko pushed forward, pressed higher and looked a much better side, but Rickmansworth broke away to add a fourth late on.

The man of the match for Berko was Morris Moorhouse on his first team debut.

It was much better news for the second team, however, as the promotion chasers smashed in seven goals against their Rickmansworth counterparts.

Skipper Roger Payton said: “It took ten minutes to get into the swing of it, but as new players became used to each other and the game progressed, it was clear that we were going to boss the game in every position”.

Man of the match Alex Hardwicke led the push forwards from central defence, while Payton (2) Giles Graham, Tim Westley, Nigel Edwards, Duncan Hodges and Matt Prowse bagged the goals.

The ladies’ first team, meanwhile, secured a 2-2 draw in their clash with Vauxhall Chiltern.

A chink in the Vauxhall defence saw Molly Beard whip in a neat goal to put Berkhamsted in front.

However, it was not long before Chiltern battled back with an equaliser.

Well in to the second half, Chiltern slipped through the Berkhamsted defence and slotted home another goal but Ann Baxter popped up to earn a draw for Berko.
