Mackay: Medics magic
Malky Mackay is relying on his medical staff to help the club in the coming months.
The Watford boss praised his backroom team for the way they have kept the small squad fit so far this season, but said the really testing time is still to come.
"March is already busy - there are an awful lot of games coming up and this is where our fitness and medical team will be earning their money" said Mackay, speaking after his side's game at QPR was called off on Tuesday night.
"They've been fantastic all season, they've kept the small squad fit all season and it's going to be a test in the coming two months.
"It's even more important now how players look after themselves and how we look after them and it will be crucial in keeping everyone fit and making sure I get my best team out on the pitch."
The Hornets' game with their West London rivals was called off an hour before kick off because of a waterlogged surface.
The postponement means by the time Mackay's men face off against Scunthorpe this weekend they will have been more than 10 days without a game.
Even so, the Scotsman is adamant calling the game off was the right decision:
"We left the hotel after our pre-match and looking out the window (assistant manager] Sean Dyche said to me 'This is not looking good is it? I hope the game is not off' and we were laughing about it.
"Then we got here, stepped out on the pitch and realised it was getting worse so it was the right decision, but it is very disappointing for us as it's been stop start in the last couple of months in terms of the weather and FA Cup fixtures."
