There were mixed fortunes for Hemel Storm in a double-header weekend as they stayed top of National League Division One but lost their unbeaten record.
In front of a packed house at Sportspace on Saturday, Storm produced arguably their best basketball of the season so far with a comprehensive 75-53 win against the Newham Neptunes who had previously only been beaten once.
But the following afternoon, Hemel lost their unbeaten record to bogey side Essex Leopards.
Saturday’s game saw an excellent second half from Storm, who raced away from Newham after leading 35-31 at half-time.
Hemel almost completely shut down the visitors’ offence in the third quarter, while pouring in 23 points of their own.
It was not such good news in Essex, though, as Storm could only manage a meagre 20 points during the second and third quarters.
The fourth quarter saw Hemel grab a few points and they managed to claw what had become a 27-point deficit back to 18 at the end of the game to lose 76-58
