Berkhamsted Bowmen were eager to defend their title when they took on Abbey Bowmen in the 2014 Chairman’s Challenge at Verulam School Playing Fields in St Albans.
The Chairman’s Challenge is battled out by archers of all ages and experience from the two clubs and this was the 27th year that the competition had been held.
The winner of the competition is determined by the club with the highest combined score, after shooting four dozen arrows at 60 yards and an additional four dozen at 50 yards.
Competition was fierce but friendly, as Berkhamsted Bowmen were eager to maintain their hold on the cup.
They continued their winning ways by claiming victory for the second year running, and chairman Steve Rushton accepted the cup on behalf of the club.
For the first time, Abbey presented an additional medal to a member of the Berkhamsted Bowmen with the most improved handicap score on the day. The medal went to Matthew Wright, who joined the club earlier this year.
Berkhamsted Bowmen shoot at Lockhart Field in Cow Roast every Sunday, weather permitting, with indoor shooting every Friday night at Chiltern Archery.
