Berkhamsted have won the Dunlop National Junior Club Championship after beating Pontefract 3-2 in the final of the competition at The Park in Nottingham.
With the final deadlocked at 2-2, Laurence Green defeated Tom Bamford 3-1 in the decisive rubber between the number 2 players to clinch the title for Berkhamsted, after Bamford had won the second game.
Earlier, Megan Kaye had given Pontefract an early lead by winning her number 5 contest against the younger Chloe Spratt 3-0, only for Berkhamsted to level matters by winning at number 3, when the impressive Hasnaat Farooqi defeated Dom Pegg 3-1.
Berkhamsted then edged in front for the first time when England number 1 Angus Gillams completely overpowered Jack Cooper 3-0, not allowing Cooper any chance to play his shots.
At the same time Ellen Cooper was doing battle with Berkhamsted’s Amy Jones on the other court at number 4, and she set up the decider with a 3-1 triumph.
Berkhamsted head squash coach Adam Fuller said: “Both teams played the final in a good spirit, showing good sportsmanship and respect for one other.
“The win was a great achievement for Berkhamsted and thanks should also go to three players that helped Berkhamsted get to the final but were unable to play at the weekend. They were Alex Noakes, Joe Yerrell and Grace Gear.
“Congratulations also go to Pontefract for a great final and we would like to say thank you to England Squash & Racketball for organising the event.”
