The Berkhamsted School cricket season has been a very pleasing one, with more than 180 boys and girls making up 15 teams and doing particularly well.

The 1st XI has had an outstanding campaign, winning 12 of their 18 fixtures; three of the matches they lost were by just one run, one wicket and four runs.

Perhaps the most memorable wins came against rivals St Albans and Haileybury – the latter were beaten by a staggering 276 runs in the school’s first ever two-day match.

The Haileybury fixture was also the first time a brother and sister, Anna and Charlie Nicholls, had been selected to represent the first XI.

Both Anna and Charlie are Middlesex County cricketers and Anna was selected for the England U19 Women’s Cricket Squad in October 2013.

There have been some outstanding individual performances with both bat and ball over the course of the season.

Xavier Owen and Harvey Robertson have been excellent with the new ball and Ali Walters has been consistently good with his off-spin.

Harry Bartlett has had his best season with the bat, scoring 614 runs including a memorable innings of 142 in the Haileybury match.

Sam Masters had a fantastic season as both captain and batting all-rounder and has played vital innings throughout the season, while U15 player Charlie Nicholls has been excellent behind the stumps and contributed some memorable knocks with the bat.

Max Maciver has been the stand-out player for the first XI, scoring 667 runs – including a century and two 90s – as well as taking 37 wickets.

There has also been an unbeaten season for the second XI, winning each of their six matches, while it was a solid campaign for the U14As who fought back from a tough first half of term to win all of their matches after the break.

The U12As’ work ethic and teamwork has begun to pay dividends and the U14Bs have won three quarters of their matches.

Berkhamsted boys and girls continue to represent Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex at age group level.
