For the boys it was Chris Nel, Tom Weston, Mason Brand, Jamie Hoyes and Jack Rees, supported by Adam Hawkswood, Zach Patel, Peter Lever, Louis Armitage and Cameron MacDonald.

The girls’ event went right down to the final few metres of the last relay when Berkhamsted narrowly missed out on top spot by one point and 0.3 seconds as they and Watford entered the race equal on points.

The boys, meanwhile, came a valiant second behind a very strong Potters Bar squad.

PBs on the night went to Potts, Brand, Hawkswood, Weston, Shaw, Rees, Northwood and Nel, while individual wins were recorded by Watson, Penberton and Hoyes

In action elsewhere, three Berkhamsted swimmers competed at the Regional Winter Championships in Norwich.

Alice Hewson, JonLuke Summerfield and Harry Ormerod did the club proud, with Ormerod claiming an excellent eighth-placed finish in the B final of the 50m backstroke.

BSC head coach Geoff Wood said: “It was a terrific weekend, auguring well for 2014 with the final round of National Arena League next Saturday to round off a highly successful year for the new club.”
