Bury Judo Club sent a small squad to the British Judo Council Open Championships in Kettering, coming away with three hard earned medals.

Highlight of the day was Beth O’Connor taking gold in the women’s U/52kg category.

She won each of her contests with ippon throws and secured another national title.

Ben Atkinson won bronze in the men’s U/73kg kyu grade but had to withdraw with an injured wrist.

Ralph Williams took a very impressive bronze in the junior boys’ U/48kg, while twin brother Haydn was very unlucky not to take a medal.

He won his first three contest with massive ippon throws but lost in the knockout stage.

Also unlucky on the day was Liam Trill Green who did not take a medal but only lost on penalty scores.
